1972 VW Westfalia Pop Top Camper Bus

This is a great factory Westy that was lightly restored years ago, and used very sparingly since. When it was restored, it received a paint job and a new interior, and a lot of mechanical work and upgrading. While the newness of the restoration has worn off, that just means it can be used more easily and isn't relagated to just being a show-car.

It has a rebuilt 2.0L Type 4 engine with dual Weber 40IDF carburetors, extractor header and muffler. It runs very well and obviously has more power than normal bay window buses with 2 liter engines. It has a newer Empi shifter with newer shift linkage and the transmission shifts into and out of all gears correctly and without grinding or crunching. It has recently had new brakes and shocks insalled. The tires are all recent, with Michelins on the front and slightly larger diameter Firestones on the rear to give it some more gear with less rpms on the highway, thanks to the increase in power from the engine.

The interior is super clean, with newer squareweave upholstery throughout. The tent has been replaced by a Just Kampers 3 window tent. It raises and lowers just like it should. There are seat belts throughout – the front ones are original 3 points, and still work correctly. It has tinted windows and all the Westfalia interior cabinets, sink, cooler, etc. It also has a side tent that is included, pics will be uploaded as soon as it can be put up (weather in Colorado – what are you going to do).

There is no rust in the rockers or the outriggers – it looks like it had some scale rust in the front floors under the mats that was treated – they are solid, though. The nose had some bondo in it, there are some paint chips and scratches (all photo documented), it has an older cassette deck stereo and small rear speakers, and some incorrect rear view mirrors. The correct chrome mirrors are included, they have just not been installed.

The 1972 is the last of the desirable early bay window buses, with the low front turn signals, but with the later, beefier Type 4 engine and heavier duty 002 3 Rib transmission. This is a great one, in excellent condition, though not so perfect you can't take it out and camp in it, or use it to run errands once in a while. Guaranteed to have people come up to you any time you stop to get gas or stretch your legs.

Happy to help with shippers for European or out of state buyers.
