definatly fit it, fold the edges and then weld. move around with the welder too. you dont want to much heat in one area.
id do a bit of the middle vent first to locate it, then top and bottom.
keep checking the door gaps too

Cheers guys,

As above I folded the edges this time before starting to weld.

Have been spotting randomly around so no heat build up.

Passenger side door gap:

Driver side door gap... you can see I had to remove a bit of the top corner... (did that in frustration yesterday to try to get it to fit nicer

Got it tacked back in at a different angle:

Much better :) - it fits the shape correctly now.

Still got a problem on the passenger side:

so I'll probably have to do the same there.

now looks like this

before you weld it all up, check your windscreen fits, as you have had to cut the top corners its worthwhile checking.
just in case

As usual, doing an excellent job there lad - makes me cry everytime I see
you struggle, then get it right - good old bull dog spirit and all that :D

Looking forward to the next installment. 8)

Cheers dude :)

Hope I don't actually make you cry when I get it wrong

Following SK's suggestion, my dad and I tried putting the windscreen in.

It went in OK-ish, easier than last time but we didn't bother to finish putting it in. It's not a genuine VW screen so a bit of a bitch to fit anyway.

That came back out again so I could finish stitching the top bit together

:)

I've not got the smaller skim of filler over all that to smooth it off. More to come tomorrow, I'm off out this evening :D

glad it fits okay, the amount of times people replace the front panel and end up with a gap in the bottom corners!
nearly done!
