Hi All,

As I'm about to do the post hibernation oil change, valve check etc I thought I'd ask what; if any, gasket sealant folk use??

Cheers

I was recently recommended to use Stag Wellseal by a chap who restores vintage motorbikes to a very high standard. It was developed by Rolls Royce, which seemed a fairly good backing!! I have bought a tube, but yet to use it.

Don’t use any sealant for the sump plate myself. I just smear some clean oil on the two card gaskets, and make sure the sump plate is bolted up evenly, gradually tightening the dome nuts in stages.

Depends on what you want to seal. I use three different types sealers when assemblying the engine.

What are the three sealers you use,
Especially the one for the case halves?

Case halves i use Granville RTV silicone. Only a tiny bit enough to seal. I normally place the sealant on the outer edge of the case, so when closed together the sealant will spread but not enough to go inside the case. Same sealant on the barrels.

Curil K2 on the pushrod seals. Just a small amount around the pushrods, then place the Elring seal and a small amount around the seals.

Winn's RTV to seal the threads of the full flow fittings instead of teflon. I place a very small amount around the thread, from the last two threads up so nothing goes inside the fitting. Same sealant on the cylinder head washers below the rocker arms.

Loctite 263 for rod bolts, flywheel gland nut and full flow oil fitting to the case(first i tap the case so when the fitting is fully tight, it stays in the right position, takes a while).
