thought I'd try a bit of welding so got some gasless wire for clark 100e mk2 its useless not only gasless am I doing something wrong it just fizzes and sprays sparklers help,Frankie.

Gasless welding does create more 'splatter' than welding with gas - anti-splatter spray can help with this, though.
Ensure that both surfaces are as shiny and clean as you can get them and ensure that your welder is attached to a good earth which is as close to the bit you're welding as possible - remember too that your welder will need to be setup differently for gasless (the electrical +ive and -ive terminals should be swapped over).
When you weld with gasless wire a 'slag' is generated over the weld pool and if your wire speed is too slow you'll loose contact with the pool resulting in more splatter when the wire catches up and arcs against the pool - try turning your wire speed up and moving smoothly.
Let us know how you get on...

;)

how do I change the +&- its a mig welder with you know triger thing and earth lead .

Check the instructions as i think most welders that can do both gas & gasless come set up to use with gas, but to be honest i would get a little bottle of gas from Halfords and just use it as a gas welder :motion:

its a gas welder but the fella in the shop said i could use gasless wire in it" can't see why not"he said.

It all depends on the model, clarke do sell some welders that will do both and others that will only do gas / gasless WITH THE SAME MODEL NUMBER. I think its the letters after the model number that will tell you whether its gas / gasless or both.
Have a look at your model number and check out Machine Mart's website, should give you more of an answer than we can :sad0049: :party0009:

Get down to your local motor factors that do welding supplies, i got a 60L bottle (3ft tall so easily managable) of CO2 for £95, full, to refill it each time now will cost £14 and i own the bottle outright they will buy it back for £80 if i want. I've had a fair few hours welding out of it now.

Those little bottles cost about £15 and youll get about 6 mins of welding out of a 750/950ml bottle of co2, the argon mix is even less so its a real false economy.

Gasless is tricky and you'll spend more time cleaning spatter and bad welds than welding, you would be better with a stick welder tbh.

Theres a lot of debate between CO2 and argoshield but if your on a budget CO2 is perfectly adequate although does spark hotter than argoshield so the welds arent as neat.

get yourself down to the nearest BOC, find yourself the biggest bottle of argoshield light you can fit in your bus, and use it once, maybe twice tops a year for the next five years, whilst still paying extortionate rental on the polaris-sized bottle.

gasless isn't even an option.

If your on the mainland there was a seller supplying bottles of argon/co2 various sizes from 40L up on ebay and delivered to your door. You return them when your done for refill again they pick up, cant find them atm so thats not much use :( .

Alternatively buy a pub gas bottle and adapter, there are load for sale on ebay dead cheap (starting at £5) get it filled up for £15 ish.

Adams Gas in Kent do rent free bottles, they also deliver but that starts to get expensive but if you're only doing a bit you won't be changing the bottle very often. When I looked I think it was about £100 to get started with them ( bottle deposit, fill, and delivery).

I agree Weldequip is a top bloke, but I'm sure the last time I spoke to him he was called Steve?

Yep - definitely Steve and definitely a top bloke! Don't use gasless wire - it produces rubbish welds every time. Get a Co2 regulator from Steve (best price and quality), beg borrow or s***l a pub gas bottle and get it filled. You may need a few pipes and another torch but then you will really be welding :) Fortunately your welder has a pretty good wire feed, so they weld quite nicely on gas.
