What tool do I need to remove the gearbox drain screw & topping up screw?

Looks like I'll need a bloody big allen key!?

17mm - seconded :)

I'm doing my buses gearbox oil tomorrow :D

Beware - it STINKS! so don't get it over you, or wear anything you might ever want to wear again.

Cheers again guys, does it need warming up like engine oil or do I just go for it and let it gloop out?

Wont do any harm to warm it up a bit, just watch out for the hot bits when underneath

tip - make sure you clean the plugs before you undo them, to stop any crud going in the gear casing.

Spooky - done mine today. my Bentley manual says 3.5ltrs and my intereurope manual says 2.5ltrs, so I put 3 ltrs in!!!!
what does the Haynes manual give as the capacity?

IIRC 3.5 litres from empty, 3litres for a refill.

Be warned - some of those drain/fill plugs can be well tight, not to say seized, in there. I ended up welding a 17mm nut to a socket bar to fit my impact driver to get mine off.

I did my gearbox oil today, in my bay.

My goodness the old stuff was murky. I think there were bits in it too, but it was hard to tell

I also changed the gear coupling between the **** rod and the gearbox... and the difference is incredible  I'm no longer hitting my hand on the handbrake bracket!
