I came across a seller selling multiple 10 inch badges which he advertises as genuine OG 43+ year old badges. They are very smooth so I removed the primer and there are no signs of rust or pitting.

Can anyone confirm if these are original or repros?

Are these the ones off ebay ?

I bought one and wasnt sure , looked a little thin but had nothing to compare it with !

Have sold it now and bought one off the samba

They look genuine. I have two originals and they look very similar to the ones you have posted. The ought to have a sort of logo on the reverse in the centre, not quite a VW logo though. It seems the ones you have posted up has no logo? :msn4: The pins should have ridges running vertically down them too! The devil is in the...

I've got two different badges and both have the ridged pins but none have the little logo.

Curious. Got me thinking. Realised I have an OG badge (in poor condition) in the study so have it in front of me now for comparison.

Everything looks right to me. I can't find a stamp on the rear of my badge (might be hidden under some of the crappy paint). If someone can tell me where to look I can scrape some off.

Mine is missing the pegs (hence why it is in the study :msn4: ) but mine doesn't have any signs of welding on them like this one.

I reckon it is either OG or the kind of reproduction we wish for (assuming it actually fits  )

Well the guy selling them, (I'll not say who for now) appears to have a lot more than the two he claimed he had. That was the first alarm bell. The pins look repaired but fit! It looks vintage and not too shiny so it might fit well with the rest of the chrome work on my bus.

Shat pics.....think its a vdub emblem.

Mr Myvanway, well done on posting the correct logo. It is very subtle, but shows you have the real McCoy. Its difficult getting an original. :D

I posted the same thread on the samba and there doesn't seem to be a consensus over original badges having a logo on the back.

That symbol is apparently from the foundry who made them for VW.

The badge pictures weights exactly 13 oz. What weight are your original badges?

OG badges are slightly curved, so they follow the front panel perfect.
If your badge is flat it's probably repro.

Weighing it?

I could be wrong, but.. the badge on my bus was original (I think) as all the interior was, the only issue was a pin had broken off. It had that distinctive logo on its reverse side, and when I bought another deluxe used badge from the Bus Boys in the US it was identical as shown above. The thing is these buses reveal secrets all the time, so watch this thread! :msn4:
