Good campsite in Stonethwaite (Borrowdale, near Keswick). (Very ) bumpy track to get to it out the back of the tiny village and basic facilities (clean toilets and sinks, but no showers - but some good swimholes up river !!). The farmer collects a very reasonable £4 per adult and £2 per child (5 -15 ) every morning.
He has no issue with groups as long as you are not loud (he does evict loud or annoying people without hesitation). He also allows dogs and open fires (as long as the fires are not on the ground and are contained withing a vessel such as a BBQ or bin off the floor). Best thing is the location - with the river and the wooded mountainsides it feels a bit grander than the Lakes - see photos.

Another is Cae Du Campsite just outside Beddgelert (on the A498) in North Wales. This is also in a spectacular location with mountains, river and the best icecream shop I've ever been in, in Beddgelert itself.

These pics are a couple of years old. We were there a couple of months ago and its getting a bit more organised. They are still happy with BBQ's off the ground. The people who own it are relaxed and freindly, but I think they are aiming for an organised site in the long term, so worth paying a visit as it is now.
