i need to get a new fuel pump.

are there ones that are better quality than others around? or all they all the same??

and, is there any mileage in getting an electronic one?

1641 sp, with alternator.

cheers.

so, probably not much difference i guess then.

the issue is a bit of a fuelling one. lost power on the motorway a few weeks ago, then wouldn't idle. got the carb (new last year) taken apart, cleaned up ... idle jets cleaned. and sorted it for a bit.

yesterday, lost power on the motorway. started again after 5 mins but stopped a couple of mins later. did this a couple of times. got towed to the garage, pressure test on the fuel pump was ok at first then dropped to next to nothing. mechanic lamenting poor quality parts so i wondered whether there were any around that were deemed "good"?

found these on ebay, i'd appreciate any thoughts:

"OE quality" ?:

I'd like to give you a definitive answer, but I can't I'm afraid. I've just been recommended to go electronic for my new engine, so got the 3.5psi CB performance pump. With regard to the standard pump, I have no idea.

thanks, useful to now that the electronic was recommended.

what set up do you have, e.g. engine, carb, alternator/dynamo etc?

As far as electric pumps go i had a cb performance pump fail on an previous car facet pumps are noisy as fuck, not sure i'd be bothering with the extra expense.
I have a standard pump fueling twin 44idfs my mate has a standard pump feeding twin 48drlas they seem to keep up fine.

well, a bit of news on this. its been in the garage and a few things were checked. fuel pump, electronic ignition, coil ..... ended up with a knackered coil and being replaced ... points instead of elec ignition. a new fuel pump ordered (the OE style one above) ...... petrol tank drained too ...... fuel filter checked etc. got a phone call later to say he'd found a plastic bag in the petrol tank!!!! so that is on its way out ..... no idea how it got there, i had a non locking petrol cap for a while.

hopefully that was the problem.

I was always led to believe that standard pumps are good for motors up to 100hp.
