Just wondering whether anyone knows what the purpose of the 'gravel guard' is (the pressed steel flap that is bolted under the rear bumper on a x-over bus)?

Have taken mine off at the moment for painting, but just wondered what purpose it serves?

Gravel gaurd/splash gaurd, there there to maintain the rigidity in the bumper and secure the corner plus as the title says gaurd from splash and throwback up the rear corner...

Thank for the reply, its not the corner pieces I was wondering about. I probably did not describe it very well.

Its runs along the bottom of the bumper by the exhaust, fixed with 4-5 screws. It's about 40-50mm deep and about the width of the engine door. The Bentley book describes it as a 'gravel guard'?

I know what you mean, though never seen one in situe....

suspect its there just to catch stones before flying into the screensof following cars...

Its a heat guard for the exhaust, I think they are only fitted to vans with a type 4 motor, mines held up with some TV ariel wire

Thanks, sounds plausible.

Just had a thought though, I don't think it will fit back on now I have fitted a tow bar. So no point in repainting it. :|
