i've just posted this as a reply to another thread.
thought i'd put it here as well:

i've got a 1972 neptune blue RHD abandoned (ish) project.
basically, i've ground to a halt.
if i could find a welder i'd finish it, but i'd let it go for the right price.

the log book still says delivery vehicle, but it has windows, and had a grotty interior.

it's sort of in two halves: one rolling body shell, and a bedroom full of bits.

i've completely overhauled the suspension on the shell.
i spent hours with a wire brush and a dremel cleaning up the rear suspension. new bushes fitted and all hammerited.
it's got a new front beam and ball joints. again, hammerited.
there's well over a £100's worth of new fasteners. maybe £200 ( i forget)
welding required is the usual bottom 6 inches.
basically:
cab floor, and the two diagonal font members.
cargo floor and outriggers.
battery shelf and corner.
inner arch pieces.
plus various small holes.
i think the panels would cost around £7-800.
not much of the welding is mot.
it could be made right for less.
or, for a mint van, more.

the paint's pretty good. it's had a respray at some point.
the odd bubble, and of course, the battery shelf corner.
again, could look good for little, or for concourse....

as for the contents of my heated, dry, spare bedroom.
one turnkey vege engine with 12k on it. fresh powder coated tinware. new stock carb. j-tubes. tuned on the bench by tom's vw at runcorn (or somewhere near there). he gave it a glowing report.
gearbox had two day's of my life dremelling the corrosion off it. two coats of grey hammerite, and a new seal.
a good fuel tank. no rust in or out. again, nice grey hammerite. (yes, i know hammerite's not brilliant,but...)
a freshly powder coated, unbutchered dash.
wiring loom. no bad wires, but a couple of repairs to the sleeve would be good. it's very simple, and easy to put back on.
bumpers. the back one's very good. two good bead blasted front middles and a choice of slightly scarred ends.
all new braking system.
two brand new rims and tyres.
all odds and sods are labelled.

well, that's most of it.
think of it as a kit.
the advantage of stripping the shell is that you can see everything. no hidden horrors. (and you'll stay clean.)

oh, there's no interior. it had mk1 micra seats (a good choice- low profile, and comfy) so holes are waiting for new ones. it will need heat.

most so called resto's are glorified repairs.
this, as i intended, would be nut-and-bolt job. (no seized fasteners!)

as i hinted, i'm dithering whether to sell.
in fact, if anyone wants to weld it for me (i'm in manchester), that's another option.

but, if i'm realistic, i should let it go.
