Headlight help

Hi all,

My bus is a 70 from the us, quick question regarding the headlights..

When I pull the light lever to the first position, the indicators come on constant, on the next notch on the lever the headlights then come on.

The headlights are sealed units and the indicators have two filaments in the bulbs.

Is this normal for a us spec?

I've got some later bay rhd lights now with a specific side light within the housing, which I assume I have to re wire the indicators and the side lights?

Pointers would be much appreciated.

I Had the same problem
Make sure you use the correct wiring diagram, front headlights and sidelights are wired differently in the USA than the UK and Europe
just put "vw camper wiring diagram" in Google and pick up the samba site all the diagrams are there, be careful it's a bit of a minefield,

I'm assuming I've done the right thing in buying late bay headlights and a re-wire is in order. Iain certainly gets a thumbs up from everyone, sounds a proper legend, will give the guy a ring.

Marshy you did the right thing ordering the uk lights. Basically you just need to remove indicator/sidelight housing, then take the grey wire off. if you look you'll see stamped into the case the number 58(sidelights) next to the terminal, this then wants extending or re routing up to the headlight bowl. you will also have to get an earth through for the sidelight, easiest way is to pick up the existing earth point thats screwed to the bowl itself....the indicator housing can stay as it is....i take it you are running red rear lenses and merged system then? If you are wanting them changed to uk speck then drop me a message and ill guide you through it.

Wiring sorted (or very nearly) thank you all for the help. Last headlight issue .... I believe I have bought some 74 on headlights (says SB45 SAE H73) on the metal part, I bought h4 bulbs with the 3 prongs but can't get these to fit, am I correct in saying that I need the P45 conversion bulb?
