Firstly a big hello to all on the site as this is my first post. I've been using the site know for several months with the hope of the right van coming up for sale but with no such luck so thought it was time to post my own thread.

I'm after a pop top camper, either a Westy, Devon or Danbury for weekend camping trips with the family. Don't want any rot as couldn't be arsed with having to take off the road as been there and done it in the past. I want a good honest van as original as possible.

I have already looked at several vans already to find that they were not as detailed. One not from this site was listed as totally original with no rust issues what so ever. After a 2 hour journey i was greeted by a van that had a blow over and front dog legs, inner bulkheads and sills that were rotton.

I appreciate it may take a while for the right bus to come along but i can wait. I am a fussy bugger having had the following restored :-

I sold the split about 18 months ago as it was not practical and too nice to use. If anyone is considering selling their van, please drop me an email so i can call you and if anyone else comes accross a suitable van for sale please drop me a line and if i buy it there are a few beers in it for you.

I'm off to Vanfest next month to see whats on offer but won't get sucked in to paying over the odds as i've seen people do in the past. Ideally the right van would be RHD, no rot, original paint or decent repaint ( not a crap blow over ) and a Danbury pop top and priced right.

PS. Great site and some fantastic vans in the gallery.

Cheers

Mike

welcome sir, and boy 'you are fussy!' thats one 'tight' looking van! nice!

Cheers all.

Yea one fussy bugger, but having spent so much money on the split and all the pain that went with it the next van will be a keeper.

The last resto taught me not to jump in head first as it's only when you strip a van completely and start to cut out rusty metal that you realise how much it spreads. (picture below shows what was a small area of rust in inner bulkhead that spread and new metal required to sort out on the split)

I know that i'm never going to find a 100% rust free van but when i come accross the right one I'll know straight away that it's for me.

Since the resto on the split I now have 2 children and can't justify doing it again. I know there are vans out there as when you do past searches on Volkszone, Just Kampers, The Samba etc............. you find ones that sold.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that some may come up when the season finishes especially after the crap summer which may have put people off owning one.

I can only hope.

Cheers

Mike

unfortunately the rust free ones are usually left hookers, and righthanders rust free, are well restored or untouched and dry stored so very expensive either way.

Welcome to the forum!

Sounds like you could be after a bus from down under - there's a few companies importing from Australia...

;)

Checked out a 70 RHD Westy last week whilest down in Cornwall that had just come in from South Africa but just wasn't right.

Great van but i knew that I'd end up messing and spending a load of dosh. I lost a load on the split and don't want to do that again. All i want to do is buy right and should I need to sell should i need the cash get my money back unlike the last that i lost over £10k.

I don't intend to sell the next one but you never know whats round the corner.

Hiya Kempy.....

I remember your split from the SSVC forum...

and like you I too had a mint split that became too nice and not practical to use every day....and ultimately spent most of it's life in the garage (!)

selling the split was a very difficult decision, we do still miss him!

However we've now bought an early bay (like many split owners it would seem.....?). Like you I've spent (and lost...) a fortune on vans in the past but with 2 small children now in the mix, I have neither the time or cash to keep spending! We too decided to try and find a restored, 'finished' van, but after months of looking gave up and bought one that needed work, so that we could get it just as we wanted.

nearly 4 months on the van is at last in paint, interior nearly done, but with no engine (yet!). Hopefully the engine will be going in this weekend, the aim is to get him finished for Brighton Breeze.

Have to say this one has tried even my patience, especially given that this summer has been awful.....  these buses just take up soooooo much time...!!

check it out in the gallery section, it's the beeglebus thread....

however.....we are nearly there, and we can now see all our hard work coming together, but this one IS a keeper, never again!!!

good luck in your search, and welcome to this (excellent) forum... 8) 8)

keep us posted!

Cracking bus as detailed below.

As discussed if it was only a pop top I would have purchased it.

yep , thats the one :D

had a couple at last weekends Tatton classic car show going crazy about it

the funny thing was Allan Wards 1968 Eurovette was about 6 cars further down the line up
being a sad old fart I have arranged for a bit of a photo shoot with Allan
well not him exactly , the two Buses together
which should make for a few good pics :)
as long as I don't take them

pics on the way

What the hell have i got to do to bus the right van.

I had been tracking this on ebay and won earlier today.

Winning bid was £7300.

During the auction I asked the seller to call me on several occasions, however would only communicate by email. Been keen i thought i would still go ahead anyway.

As part of the sale he requested £100 as deposit. I won the auction @ 2.06pm and immediatly went out as me and the family were meeting with friends at 2.30pm.

Goy back at just after 7 and logged on straight away. During this time i had recieved 4 emails requesting a deposit to a pay pal account and confirmation as to when collection could be made.

I replied requesting an invoice from him for the amount together with a contact number & confirmed that I would like to meet up to check over all paperwork prior to arranging a bankers draft and confirmed collection could take place either back end of next week or early the following.

I couldn't believe the next email stating that he was offering as a 2nd chance offer and that he wouldn't sell to me.

Are people really expect me to just part with my cash over the internet that easy from someone i don't know from Adam who won't pick up the phone to call me.

Mike

I hope you reported him!!

You done the right thing fellatoo many people hand over reddy cash and end up being stung....

Looking like a nice van though pity....

The bus is yours- you've met the T & C's! Contact the seller again and ask him to reconsider... you can also apply for the sellers' contact details (inc phone number) through eBay to speak to him in person. If all else fail contact eBay for help - you (and the seller) have entered into a contract, both of you should honour it and a bit of pressure from eBay should do the trick...

This may help:

Contacting Your Seller
After you win an item, the Pay Now button is usually the fastest way to pay your seller. The Pay Now button will appear on the item page in My eBay after you win an item, and in the confirmation email you receive from eBay.

However, if you're unable to pay using the Pay Now button because you're missing total cost information, or have questions about the final price, you can request the total from the seller. To do so, click on the "Request Total" link on the item page in My eBay, or during the review step after clicking on the Pay Now button.

If you have a question unrelated to the final costs of your purchase click the "Contact Seller" link on the item page.

If you have tried the options above and are still unable to get a response from your Seller, you can request additional contact information directly from eBay. First, click on the "Advanced Search" link under the "Search" button in the eBay header. Next, click on the "Find Contact Information" link on the left-hand side of the page.

Note: In order to obtain contact information from another member you have to have a transaction in common.

Your Contact Information

Make sure eBay always has your current contact information, such as email address, phone number, and postal address so that your sellers can contact you after you win an item.

If your correct information isn't on file, other members won't be able to contact you or post items to your new address. It's against eBay rules to keep incorrect or out-of-date contact information on file.

Good luck, keep us informed...

;)

Almost forgot... remember to keep it friendly - I suspect that your seller just has the jitters - some calm reassurance from you could get things back on track (even if it doesn't you'll have the satisfaction of knowing that it wasn't because you've done anything wrong)...

... and ultimately if it falls through remember that there's always another out there...

Hope it works out...

;)
