I've just replaced the starter on my 71 van after the previous one packed up, or more accurately the solenoid disintegrated when I took the old starter off. Sadly i've now got nothing when I turn the key. I've hot wired the starter between the 2 terminals and the starter sparks into life so I know that's working, and it's a new battery so I know it's not that.
My question is, on the old starter I had the main post wires and 2 additional wires (which I presume are from the ignition switch?) that connected on spade terminals to the old starter, on the new after market starter there is only one terminal. do I need to put both the wires into one spade terminal connection (or get a piggyback connector)? or should it work off just one of the wires? if so which one?
Hope someone can help as it's driving me up the wall now :-(
