OK so I put it at TDC also making sure the dizzy arm thing was near the notch, and the exhaust valve on cylinder one will not budge, so I undid the locking nut turned the screw both ways to no avail, can I hit it with a hammer yet.

This engine is new like just over a year old its a remtec engine 1641, surely it would not be broken yet?

Please any advise very welcome

What do you mean by "the exhaust valve on cylinder one will not budge"? Are you saying that the valve will not move when the push rod operates the rocker? From your description it would appear that you are confusing yourself. Please define your problem and allow time for people to respond. This is a small forum with a limited number of posters so the knowledge base is equally limited. I've posted these questions to keep your thread alive, but I'm off at 6:30 tomorrow morning and won't be back for a week, so hopefully someone will have been able to help you in the meantime. Good luck

It sure is a small forum, the arm will not move, a guy on vzi said the notch on the dizzy dies not always mean I am on one, he thinks I maybe on 3 so I am gonna turn it 360 and see if that does it :d

You cannot rely on the notch on the dizzy as the drive could have been incorrectly fitted. Turn the engine so the rotor arm points to where no 1 plug lead is and then line up the timing marks for TDC.

shaggy,

if you are still having trouble finding out wether you are on the compression cycle of number 1.

remove the plug and place your little finger in the hole whie somebody turns engine by hand.
you will feel the difference when its coming up for the combustion cycle as u will feel pressure on your finger. not your finger being sucked..

when you achive that your on number 1 then you check your valve gaps..and also make sure dizzy lines up, if note make a mark so u know where no1 on combustion is..

Thanks Guys, All sorted :D I feel a bit silly but I didn't want to do anything until you lots gave some good advice  its just the first time of adjusting the valves, but a nice easy job :D

Now all I have to do its fit a vac dizzy, time it and fit the carb tune that and an oil change

Can I ask what the problem was? :)

I was at Bristol so sorry I didn't reply to the PM 8)

Hey dude, well it was me being an idiot, I had been reading how to do the valves and it said line up a TDC and Cylinder 1 dizzy arm thing should line up with notice, so I did all that and one of the valves were closed, and I got a bit scared didn't know what to do. but it turns out that on my dizzy it does not fire in the normal way it is just swapped around a bit....hahaha

I just didn't want to brake anything. There where a lot out though :?
