My van has broken a valve :(

(top right corner of far right valve)

On my 4000 mile-old auto linea heads too.

Hopefully I can find someone with a valve spring compressor and just get away with only replacing the one valve - it appears it was adjusted too tight when a friend helped me do valves a couple of weeks ago :(

Empty engine bay:

And the offending engine before stripping down...

Still, it gives me a chance to sort out the heating system a little more thoroughly.

And I've just sorted out the exhaust valves and so on I need for it. :D

Should be back on the road by wednesday evening... and only 'cos I'm busy tomorrow

is this *another* air-cooled vw myth being de-bunked in front of our very eyes then

i thought it was *common knowledge* then when you had valve failure on these engines, the offending valve explodes like shrapnel into a billion pieces, which are then recirculated throughout the rest of the engine by the oil system thus rendering pretty much everything inside the case scrap ?

you seem to have had a small piece chip off, and you are getting away with removing one head and replacing one valve ?

a right ball-ache on the one hand, or a right lucky escape on the other

:D Perhaps I was lucky.

And there I was wondering why it would only do 65mph on the 90 mile run home.

Think I could be considered lucky, but it puts me yet another few days behind in terms of beetle restoration :(

Fingers crossed it'll be back running by Thursday :D

Oh, and it gives me a chance to sort out the heating properly, too :D

By the time I had done 80 miles I was driving with the window down, but that's not good enough!

Hi!

Well done that man! Did you find where the bit went? Guess it went out the exhaust then? Surprised nowt ratteled about in the barrel and messed up things??

And as for 65 mph

Dont think mines goes that fast, unless it's a steep hill! Cant keep it in a straight line.........note to self.......tighten steering...........
