Just got back from a sixty mile or so trip in the van and noticed that there seemd to be a lot of brake dust on one of the rear wheels.
When you touched the wheel and hub cap they were red hot and so was the tyre.

No i wasn't driving or braking really hard and aim to adjust the rear pads but just woundered when does it become dangerous when this happens. I do know that your wheel does heat up but not the same level as the exhaust.

if it heats up enough it will boil the brake fluid! no brake fluid = trouble

i had a front caliper that was binding and got so hot that the paint blistered on the wheels, it got me home but it wasnt pleasant thinking about what might have been.

I've boiled brake fluid in an oval, single circuit - no brake pedal at all and I can tell you it's scary ****, it was a fast oval too.

My problem was the handbrake was on one click by accident, check your flexi lines - if they are starting to break up inside
the shoes might lock on just enough to heat the drums up.
