That's cool. I still love that name haha. A broken chassisI’m usually just a couple of nights as it’s mostly VW shows where I get off too. I’ve done an occasional week or more just in the van but I need to get to an occasional place with a shower. Years ago, I lived in an Austin JU camper through the week for a year or so and just went home to Bristol for the weekend . This van was called Puff The Tragic Wagon and lived up to his name and died of a broken chassis in Taunton.

Back In the year dot, I worked through the week in Taunton. I also frequented a local pub and drank there and also played for the pub pool team. As was the style back then, we would all pile into any vehicle and take as few vehicles as poss because most peeps was proper skint most of the time. As I had this old camper, Puff The Tragic Wagon which was a bit of a pee take on the record Puff The Magic Dragon obviously . Well we had about eight or ten squeezed in there and was coming back from an away pool match that was a lot further than normal and we was singing and shouting as you do when you’ve just finished a match. Someone was changing gear and I was squeezed in side saddle and was doing acceleration and steering and maybe brakes, but it all got a bit confused and we ended up driving straight through a huge roundabout about two in the morning. Well we had well and truly snapped the chassis in half and the van was a bit folded up in the middle and the roof and a crease in the floor. As there weren’t any options, we pushed him back on the road and piled most peeps in the back over the springs and axle and drove him the last couple of miles to the pub and creaked and scraped our way through the outskirts of Taunton. This was mid to late seventies and mobiles weren’t even dreamt of and public phones were scarce especially in the countryside.That's cool. I still love that name haha. A broken chassis
