I just can't decide which insurance company to go with....

Footman James - I have always been with them and heard good things when it comes to claiming but £260 :|

RH Specialists - £142.80 but know nothing about them?

Cherished Vehicle Insurance - £142.80 but they are a new company and know nothing about them?

Can anyone help me make my mind up? I know there is a big difference in premium but if I had to make a claim........I want to know that I will be covered.

Thanks all.

All I can say is im with RH and the agreed valuation was really easy to setup much better than JK insurance. And get the usual free breakdown. Not sure what it would be like when coming to claim......hope i never have too.

I was with RH - easy to get an agreed value etc. But they hiked the premium this year.

Tried Cherished and better premium, but there were some moans on here about valuation (although I think that is sorted).

Now with Peter Best, who were at Alive n Dubbin. Very, very competitive, no quibble about the valuation (sent in photos plus an independent value I needed for RH). Full continental breakdown etc

We are with Peter Best £190.

Got £14k agreed valuation with no problems and it includes breakdown cover.

Never had to claim but the policy is with Ecclesiastical who are very reputable.

Hope this helps Jon.

I'm with Sureterm but not convinced i'll stay with them.
Have to pay extra to get mileage lifted to 8000 a year (although i'm nowhere near this mark), extra for European breakdown cover and anything over a gaurenteed value of £5000 needs to be approved.
Will keep an eye on this one as although mines not due until Jan thats only 4 months away

Cheers Everyone..... ;)

Who won? mines up in September.

Still not 100%, I am going to contact Pete Best, to see how I feel about them.

Mark at Cherished has been spot on and I would definitely be with them if they weren't such a new company but I may still go with them. I have always liked Footman James but the price is high.....but not as high as replacing the camper

I'll let you know.

Having workin in insurance for some 20 years my advice is to make sure the broker is a decent one, the insurers are all pretty much the same, if they can get out of paying they will but usually they are good.

If you have a decent broker that knows what they are doing and are not full of untrained telephone call centre staff then you should be ok.

Been speaking with a guy off here last few days about a claim and how slow things were and this is because the broker just acts as a post office rather than pro active and pushing things.

This is the problem with these schemes they are run like call centres than like brokers and the staff through no fault of their own lack experience and knowledge

My insurance is with Equity via JK if i recall, £150 ish.

Agreed value of £13,000 no question, limited 7,500 miles and they are aware of the mods (lowering 1700 engine replaced with 1800)

But i would no doubt get stuck in with the claims handling

Well, due to the good customer service (and price) I have received from Cherished Vehicle Insurance and the fact that they sponsor this site I have taken the bull by the horns and paid my premium.

Mark Grieve was very knowledgeable and gave me confidence in their ability to deal with any issues or claims, they agreed the value based on photographs and sent me an email confiming all of the details. The cover seems very comparable to that which I had from Footman James but at hlf of the price. (RH Specialists came up with a good price but were unable to send the details to the correct address, twice..... )

I will let everyone know if I have any issues.

I've just exactly the same this week Jon

My old policy was via a broker I've used for years in Bristol and it was placed with Footman James. It would seem that FJ have changed their underwriters and this is having a huge impact on the premiums they are offering.

Massive saving with Cherished, and no problems at all with agreed value form the photos I sent them. The only query I had with the paperwork when it came through was whether European breakdown cover was included, the paperwork said no but I was 99% certain that had been mentioned as being included when I first got the quote. It can be added though for £28 which I may do if the westy doesn't sell just yet

Hope I don't have to make a claim, but agree Mark very helpful

i too have just had the same thing, i have always had all of my dubs insured with HIC but there prices were silly this year, so i went with RH, i've seen them advertise in car mags for at least 15-18 years so they must be doing something right to be in business all this time.

When i spoke to them on the phone they were helpful and knew what they were talking about. i havent ever had to make a claim (touch wood), but my experiance with them so far has been very good.

I had all of the documents through today from Cherished Vehicle Insurance ( cherishedcampers.com ) and it was all there as promised including the UK and EU breakdown cover I had requested (£28 included in my premium). The agreed value certificate, list of mods etc was all there and claim information from premium choice, all clear and to the point.

I spoke to Mark about the possibility of having comprehensive cover for my Westy trailer too, as I seem to use it all of the time now and he is getting back to me on a price. The trailer is covered third party anyway which is always good to know. 8)

Seems like this Mark is far better than the guy I spoke to back in the summer (Gavin maybe?). If he understands bays as he seems to then I will move from FJ as well. With them sponsoring the site if anyone here had a problem with a claim they'd be pretty sure to lose business, so hope they'd be as good as their prices.

Just insured mine today £15k valuation AA breakdown cover UK and European £139.00 with Peter Best and the same policy as above

mmmmmmm Those of us that have an agreed value policy
may well feel protected by a certificate sayin its worth 540k but whos
actually seen it from the insurance company?
im very dubious about them paying out on half a dozen photos and our say so
I bet in the avent of a total loss some suited 11 year old would turn up and say nah it was never worth that
mate.

Ohhh for f*"^ sake mines due,,,,,,, what do I do ???
Go with our sponser ??? Seems a good idea, At the mo I`m with a co that does a lot of soldering and it`s fully comp £135 but it`s an extra £85 for breakdown cover. Good deal while it`s parked in the garage ( resto ) but maybe not when it`s on the road, all food for thought but my initial lean is towards our sponser. 8) 8)

Ozziedog,,,,,,,,, As confused as ever,,, :? :?
