Hi, New to the site and looking for an early Bay Camper, got about 5K to spend, could probably push to 6k. Ideally want a van Mot'd and a poptop of some sort but don't mind a tintop, happy to consider anything really not involving mega work. Any nudges in the right direction would be much appreciated. Should also state that LHD not a problem.

Not too sure whats around at the minute but Graham L and Scott Wilson will be a good start.

Imports are the way to roll if you want a soild van, might be abit scruffy but are generally solid which the main thing i think, tatty paint is easy to change, welding in new floor pans and sills is not

Hmm, sounds like this will need lots of welding, being a RHD UK van thats nearly 40 years old is no way gonna be as solid as a import LHD like this one as mentioned above:

1969 Montana Red Deluxe viewtopic.php?f=3&t=19527

If you can stretch your budget to something like this, you would in theory never have to go near it with a welder for a very very long time - maybe even decades, a uk van for 4k is gonna eat into your money very quickly. A rust free uk van is not gonna be cheap.
Best to get the most solid bus you can - dont worry about the interier, you can make that your own, you don't wanna be spending your hard earned welding new panels in every mot!!

For me, (as this is my 1st van) i was in the same boat, i went for a lhd solid us import, not rotten, paid strong money mind, but well happy knowing that it isn't a money pit - and i can spend more time enjoying it, rather than paying for it to be welded - unless you like welding of course!

You will find some really nice vans for sale on here from the traders who have imports, and you would do yourself a very nice bus - especially once you have travelled around looking at all the rotten tarted up uk vans hiding lord knows what rot. Dont get me wrong, good uk buses are out there, but i am sure most would agree - a bus as rust free as a import is a lot of money!

My opinioin of course, but import rust free all the way!

Happy hunting!

Cheers!

Alistair
