Hi guys,

I was wondering whether there is anyone out there who has imported bus/es from Australia? what are your experiences and what were the approximate costs.

I'm living in Melbourne for 2 years and thinking about sourcing myself a bus or two for the next project. May even look for other VWs. Also, maybe find some of those elusive RHD parts like sliding doors and steering boxes.

Your help is much appreciated.

not quite oz but i lived in nz for a couple of years and brought our van back to uk. drove it up to auckland, stuck it into a shipping container, told the nzta (their version of dvla) that the van needed deregistering at which point they asked for the number plates back as they dont belong to the vehicle (who knew!) so i told then they'd have to wait a while as they were on a boat.

boat arrived, i drove it home on emergency insurance with a live Warrent of Fitness from NZ (their version of MOT), got it mot'd, drove it to reading dvla who registered it immediately (though got the year wrong i think as its a 7/70- should be an H plate not J?)

no hassle, no tax issues, no registration issues, easy peasy! though this was in 2007

thanks weeboll.

not sure whether it will be a runner so will be going into a conatiner with parts!

Just trying to find out how much all in from aus. I was going to contact kingstown shipping, but they only have a telephone number and i'm over here in Melbourne. They seem pretty popular and good at taking care of all the paperwork for you.

Get in touch with Kahunakombi (Burt) on Kombiclub. He's got a mate who use to send campers over here. Whatever you do Nate don't start this thread on there. Send him a PM.

If you want me to call Kingstown on your behalf I'd be happy to help. PM me if you want it. And the questions I'd need to ask :D

thanks VERY much for the offer...having looked again today on their website i realised that below the telephone number were a list of names of the people - these were actually hyperlinks to emailing. i have sent them an email, but will be in touch if they dont respond.

thanks again...just the reason why I am staying on this site even though i'm on the other side of the world :)
