On my recently acquired texas import '68 when the indicator stalk is in the central position ie off there is the ticking like the indicator is on which is presumably the relay BUT the indicator lights aren't flashing, and when you switch the indicators on they work fine. I wasn't worried too much about this till there was a smell of burning electrics and blue smoke from the indicator stalk box bit on the column.

Any ideas whats the problem? just something shorting inside the indicator swithch/ mechanism?

Sorry but its not possible to trace wiring problems by guesswork on the internet. The only way this kind of thing can be fixed is by hands on circuit testing.

I can only give you a possible reason as I had the same symptoms on my bus when I got it.

I had to remove the indicator switch and give it a really good clean out as the problem was lots of tiny 'filings' shorting out the contacts on the switch. It is just the result of years of wear of the contacts. I cleaned it all out and everything was fine.

Well I just took the cover off and gave it a good spray with brake cleaner then air and it seems to be ok ......... For now.
Cheers
Ash
