hello all

i am trying to re wire my van it did work before i got my fuel sender fixed but it was messy and looked dangerous.

i have started at the back of the dashboard, i have checked the wiring diagram that best suits my van and subsequently i have taken a live from the fuse box and attached it to the small connector which feeds the generator charging light and the left indicator, i have then bridged this to the right indicator and the oil warning light and then on to the fuel gauge.

however the minute i connect the power all the lights go on and remain on, however when the idicators are used the lights do flash. What is going on ??????? am i missing something really stupid??

i started to firstly work back to the idicators which makes me ask another question, i have the new 3 pin relays rather than the 4 pin ones and they did work???

however in the wiring diagram the feed from the relay to the back of the dash comes from KBL???? what is this?? also how can the feed for both indicators from the relay come from the same wire?

i have many more questions but that will do for now

thanks in advance

1. are the lamps coming on with the ignition off/key removed ? if so you've taken a permanent live not switched.
2. the KBL feed from the relay goes to the indicator lamps on the dash
3. both indicators operate from one wire through the stalk which feeds to its respective L/R side and are fed to both via the emergency flasher switch

so you have the 3 pin relay

should be marked 31/+49/49a

31 goes to chassis
+ or +49 goes to emergency flasher switch + or +49
49a should have 3 wires one to the stalk, one to the emergency flasher switch and another to the dash mounted indicator lamps

the ignition switch is simple to remove from the barrel a tiny grub screw.... you can have a try at stripping and cleaning the thing but usually the plastics gone brittle by now so once you try to force the catches they snap.... so you could try a can of contact cleaner or leave it to soak for a few days in alcohol....
