Having not used the van much just realised my 2 year old leisure battery is dead as a dodo.

Put it on charge but seems to drop 0.5 volt a day without being connected to anything.

Does anyone know if this is normal or whether it will recover etc

What are you charging it with?
"Normal" chargers haven't got the oomph to fully charge high ampere/hour batteries.
Although if you left it in a discharged state it's probably f*cked.

Using some Halfords jobby I have had for years, says it ok for leisure battery's. Makes a loud humming noise when in use so probably should treat myself to a new one!

I hope it recovers as I have hardly used it

I'm just about to order a charger for my 110a/h leisure battery which will be a permanent fixture in my bus.
I contacted CTEK and they said I would need the MXS 7.0 ( £98.99 ), but reading the spec below , an MXS 5.0 ( £58.99 ) will charge a 110 a/h battery.

Has anybody had any good/bad experience with these chargers ? or should I (and Curly Head), for the sake of the extra £40, go for the more expensive one based on the reasoning that it won't be working as hard therefore it should last longer ??

"The MXS 5.0 is a fully automatic 8-step charger that delivers selectable 0.8A or 5A to 12V batteries from 1.2-110Ah. The charger is IP 65 rated (splash and dust proof), designed to protect vehicle electronics, non-sparking, reverse polarity protected and short-circuit proof. It also includes a 5 year manufacturer's warranty. ."

The charger is IP 65 classified (splash and dust proof), designed to protect vehicle electronics, non-sparking, reverse polarity protected and short-circuit proof. The MXS 7.0 has a 5 year manufacturer's warranty."

i have a "ctek" type charger for my LB it has a desulphating mode/heavy charge 14.7v and maintane mode and can be left plugged in for extended periods 3 months or so and has a setting to charge in very cold temps. only cost about 45quid a couple of years ago.

i use mine on 110ah LB as the guys who sold said would be fine.

all i can say it seems to work well.

if you can open top of batt up mate, is space between plates clear , or full of "stuff )(bad stuff!)

Mine is a sealed type so can't take a look

I have an old optimate charger in the loft so was going to look to see if that would be ok to charge as I seem to remember it kept my motorbike battery good

Sounds goosed mate, take it to your local battery place and they will try it on their big charger overnight if they think its worth it and you ask nicely.

Hi,

I'll be buying one of these soon:

20a is man enough for me, i have a 210aH set of Trojan cart batterys to charge!

Cheers,

Alistair

if you go into halfords (i know...) with the battery, they'll test it for you for free- much better and easier than charging it up and seeing how long it takes to go down, etc... whenever i've gone they've actually been really helpful- one guy even tested a (non-halfords) battery, found it was duff... told me to shake it and it'll be good as new. shook it- been spot on for two more years now.
