hello all, this is my first post, so hope I have done right!!
along the first, I have just purchased my very first VW, hes a 1971 / 72 T2 Bay, so Im a little green.
Anyway can someone advise, im looking at installing a battery swither to make sure the leisure battery does not drain the main when camping. Any advise on mounting the switch, what switch, best ways etc would be really appreciated.

thanks in advance

Stu

Sounds like you are referring to a Split Charge system rather than a switch.

Split chargers prevent your main (starting) battery from discharging when your leisure battery is low, they also enable the alternator/generator to charge your leisure battery and main batt when driving.
It has a set voltage level in so that it can keep both topped up on the move - although it is always advisable to trickle charge your leisure battery when its not in use.

There are loads to choose from and I am sure some peeps will be along soon to recommend one!

I fitted one of these http://www.xtremevan.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=5026" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
and one of the XT120 chargers which I connect to my hook up RCD /Socket set-up .
Its been great , not cheap but its a nice easy package to install and all indvidually fused with the 10 separate feeds including one for your radio battery maintainer

plus you can this set-up out the way , whereas Ive found the CF8 which I used to have bulky and has to be mounted somewhere that you can't damage the fuse holders etc

Check out ebay item number 140866376486. It's the split relay and all the cabling for just over £23. It comes with a diagram and is easy to install. He also does a 70amp one for about £40 if you've got a fridge etc.
I've got a diagram which I installed mine too, PM me and I'll send it to you if you need it
