M Plate Special colour

Post by owlebay » Thu Jan 25, 2018 4:58 pm

Hi

Looking for some help with the information on my M plate on a 03/68 Microbus.

Plate code is 522552.

Using the VW Transporter and Microbus book by Vincent Molenaar and Alexander Prinz as a guide.

So by my workings out using the book says its a Sonderlackierungen ( special paint job ) first number in code 5 .

Second part of code is 22 which shows it as a microbus colour.

Third part of code is 552 , in the book 552 does not appear however 551 does and it shows the correct colour of the vehicle as Neptune blue .

So my question is why would this appear as a special paint job as Neptune blue was a standard colour on that year along with a cloud white roof.

The VW birth certificate shows as colour cannot be identified as well as the M plate decoder.

Can anyone confirm if the last part of the code the 2 relates to the white roof?

Also to quote from the line in the book next to code 551 in the remarks column it states Westfalia any idea why that would be. ( i know what a westy is btw ) and my bus is not one.

Any help would much appreciated.

Thanks Al

 Only bit I can add is that Westfalia did quite a lot of specials for various industrial outlets like fire wagons and pump tenders and lots of other specials. There is a ladder truck for sale on another forum.

Ozziedog,,,,,,,,it ain’t just campers and tinny toppers

Cheers for the reply Ozzie, and a very nice ladder truck that is , if only i had the room.

As for my bus i wonder if it was originally intended for a Westfalia conversion but never got the exclusive treatment , the research continues and thats part of the fun when researching older vehicles.

Another anomoly i have seen is the VW birth certificate states the bus was built at Emden but from the information i have any bus that was built in Emden should have the letter E next to year/month build date, mine has no E. So either the birth certificate is wrong or the plate is wrongly stamped. It is the original M plate and i have been in contact with another earlybay owner who owns a bus that was built 4 days before mine to exactly the same spec and export code to the united states.

Does anybody else have an early 67/68 with an M plate with the letter E next to the build date? Does your VW birth certificate confirm it was a Emden built bus or does anyone have a M plate with no E and have a VW birth certificate stating it was a Hannover built bus.

Sorry if this seems really geekish but i am intrested in picking apart stuff like this.

Cheers Al
