Evenin' folks,

Just about to fit a new oil seal and I'm wondering if there any tricks of the trade about replacing this wee beasty......I might be jumping the gun though, haven't got my fookin' flywheel off yet

Cheers

Ian

Firstly, make sure you get a decent seal to start with, the one I got was a german rubber one,not silicone. You can buy a tool which fits over the seal and then you tap it home flush,or you can find a socket which fits nicely.Put a thin film of grease on the lip of the seal before you fit it.And tap it gently keeping the seal level.

Also replace the rubber O-ring fitted on the inside lip of the flywheel. They can perish too.

Also you can still get 100% genuine seals from your VW main dealer, they do get slightly confused about what you are asking for. Tell them it is for an AD engine. It is far better quality than any of the seals from GSF, Jk and the like. It even looks slightly different. Also make sure the sealing face of the flywheel is squeaky clean and free from pitting or scoring.
