well, with the speedmasters ostensibly being a copy in the first place,
Not looking for smart a**ed replies, genuine question this! Absolutely recognise the Speedmasters and have loved the design for years. Looks particularly good with spinners in my opinion. Copy of 'Hallibrand', is that right?
No , I am not in the first flush of youth, if I were then the memory would perhaps serve better!

halibrand are / were / are a company who produce all sorts of stuff, and all sorts of wheels, condensing what was going to be a rambling epic into two lines because i can hear my boy stirring.

the wheel that the speedmaster is based on is commonly referred to as the 'kidney bean' although (as is often the case) i don't have any evidence that the guy who designed the wheel just came up with a design off the top of his head that just so happened to look exactly like etc. etc.

but, when i look at the speedmaster wheel i see halibrands, yeah.

in my world they don't belong on VWs but if everybody lived in my world it'd be a right nuisance as they'd probably all start complaining about the sawdust on the hall carpet.

YES I'LL HOOVER IT UP give us a minute

naah, they look absolutely ace on buses, don't get me wrong, but when i think of halibrands i picture fuel altereds lighting up pie crust slicks, or mile high gassers teetering over skinny spindle mounts...

i grew up watching stock cars which led to an obsession with big block V8s and subsequently all things american, whereas i'm 'new' to VWs so i possibly have a different frame of reference

and that  was for my hall carpet mess, not your wheels

As many have said, the MWS debate has been covered before, many times!

Horses for courses, you get what you pay for. I've had several sets of their rims over the years and in my experience the painted ones are very good for the money. I had a set of BRM's on my last late bay and I used that as a daily driver, in all weathers. I did spend a fair amount of time keeping them clean and waxing them, but as I sold the bus to a mate at work who also uses the bus regularly, I can vouch for the fact that they still look good, 3yrs on, on a bus that isn't garaged.

I've never bought fully polished ones from them though, these ones seem to be the ones that cause people the most problems, due to the lacquer it would seem?

I also bought a set of rims/tyres for my T4 from them, and as a previous customer they gave me a very good deal, delivering them to my door the next day,

I personally have always found them to be very helpful at shows, and there is no doubt that they offer good packages, in many cases the rim/tyre combo simply bolt straight on, all balanced and ready to go.

What some folks don't know is that MWS also supply rims to Cool Air and VW Heritage, so unless you really do have £1k plus to spend on rims  then it's likely that you will get MWS ones.

therein lies the problem... they're too important a component for that kind of a statement aren't they ?

"i got my wheel/tyre combo from ********* they've been in business ** years and they've never had a customer complaint about their service, of which they're justifiably proud 8) "

that's the sort of feedback i'd be looking for when researching products that are the last link between the road and you
