Miles from a full tank?

hi i did 200miles on £50 1600 twinport stock and stock height

dont know what that works at for mpg, maybe someone could work it out for me :D

I'm getting 250 miles from a tank with a heavy foot and a 2276cc engine, did a fair chunk at 80mph too.

Worked it out on the way back from Chimay a few weeks back.

Fuel gauge has never worked so always Jot down the mileage when I fill it up and work it out from there. So i get 27mpg on a run, 13 gal tank means 350 miles. But as soon as I get to around 250 I start to think about refilling.

just done a 2700mile trip around france fully loaded and averaged 23.75mpg mainly on super unleaded, but that was with a porsche 911 3.0L engine. did manage a few tanks up around 27-30mpg when i drove on the motorway for a single tank.

Fuel tank is 60 litres = 13 Gallons (or thereabouts).

You should be able to get 25MPG with a stock 1600, so 13 gallons at 25MPG will get you roughly 325 miles.

I think they are meant to have a gallon left when the needle hits the R, so 300 miles from a tank wouldn't seem unreasonable. :)

Well, I worked out my MPG over the 400 miles I did in my Bay this week - averaged 24.5MPG or thereabouts with 5 people and a bus full of camping gear including two tents, cooking stuff and so on :)

That was over a range of A and B roads with some significant (down to 2nd gear) hills en-route - stock '71 1600 except some lowering, a pair of 36mm DRLA carbs and a Beetle exhaust with twin bus tailpipes... .

Don't think that's too bad considering.

I brimmed the tank this morning, after 180 miles my fuel gauge reads just below half full.

Jeez, planning to use mine as a daily, this may effect my wallet more than i thought. Bring back the good old days when we were all moaning about petrol approaching a quid a litre. I used to put 2 quid in my bug, and it would last a week. Local job, but 2 quid wouldn't get me to the end of my road now. Just realised that was almost 30 years ago.

Just to ressurect this thread i've been brimming and using and brimming to get as acurate a reading as i can....... makes for depressing reading although i am a 2 litre fuel injected 3 speed auto.

i guess some of the estimates aren't close because of tyres, mine is running 195 75 15 which is as close as can be to the original 185 14 so i'm as accurate as makes no odds, those guessing "about 23mpg" etc with no exact maths and fill ups are not worth trusting as accurate, you need to know exact miles done divided by litres/gallons used to get a decent estimate.

200-250 a tank except when the pump diaphram leaks and fills the case with petrol. then it sinks to about 100 miles a tank + an emergency stop at henley beetles for an oil change

On a recent trip from Norfolk to Cornwall, I got 22mpg out of my 1700 Type 4 engine.

I have to write it all down because my gauge doesn't work

Just downloaded this for the iphone, and it looks just the job. As soon as I have a couple of fills logged, I'll be much wiser about my consumption, and probably much more miserable too.
