Occassionally when turning the ignition key on my Type 2 crossover, the ignition lights dim but the starter does not crank. If I immediately try again it starts straight away. Although not a problem as such I'd like to get it sorted incase it gets worse.

Any ideas

Could be a few things:

Sticking solonoid
Worn brushes in the starter making itermitent contact
Bad earth.

I would disconnect and clean all the contacts to the starter, and then cover in grease to stop moisture getting in, If that doesnt work next would be to take off starter and check the solonoid.

can you hear the solenoid kicking in?

could even be the battery on its last legs but I'd personally go with the above

Thanks both for the advice. Battery appears fine as it cranks over the motor strongly the second time but will check the other areas mentioned.
