After sitting in the dash for about 3 years now ive finally wired up my Deluxe Clock. Got it serviced when i got it as a non working clock for £15 and at the moment its keeping perfect time.

Couple of questions for clock owners. How much drain dose this put on your battery? (remember when im at work my bus is laid up for 3 weeks). What is the loud click every now and again.

the guy who serviced mine (jdo....) suggested that if you fit a switch and turn the clock off when not being used, it will last a lot longer being a clockwork mechanism; so I fitted a simple toggle switch on the dash (I think I mounted it by the headlight switch) and only have the clock on when I use the van - can also be handy to switch it off if the tick tock drives you mad at night......................

Hiya Clyde,

You have to remember that this clock is not an electronic quartz movement kinda thing. It's actually pretty primitive by today's standards. The clock is actually nothing more than a spring driven timepiece (in that respect it's a lot closer to the old-time alarm clock one sat in the bedroom than it is to a modern clock). The big difference between an alarm clock and a bus clock is how the spring is wound. The bus clock uses a small electric motor to wind the spring. It works via a set of contacts that engage when the spring is unwound to a given point. That's the "clunk" you hear every so often. Perfectly normal for this sort of clock.

The electricity used is minimal (only for the occasional rewinding and the light when you have the running lights on).

the clock is like a real clock ie cogs /teeth & wheels ...the clunk every 3-4 mins is the electronic winder ...there is a mini set of points (like in a dizzy) that moves the winder wheel
I fitted a cut off switch because at 3 am on a quiet campsite it sounds like a pixie bashing the insides of the dash with a toffee hammer

my clock does tick, but i dont have a clunk atall? loses about 10 mins every couple of weeks but can live with that 8)

Wow i've always wondered what that clunk was! My clock needs a service it looses time very fast =(

How much does it cost to get it serviced?

Get them serviced via http://www.jdo1.com

There is a clock speed adjuster on the back though.

If your clocks still working just try slowing it down first. A service will not improve its timing i dont think! Im thinking of fitting an in line fuse to act as the on/off switch.

I have an inline fuse fitted to mine....BEWARE of adjusting the "faster/slower" screw on the back......mine ran 15 mins a day slow so I "adjusted" the screw by a nanomillimeter and now cant get it to run any less than 4 HOURS a day FAST :D ....

at least youll get there on time

Mine used to lose 5 minutes every 24 hours. I took it out and found an auto elec who gave it to an older friend of his who is retired. I paid him about $130 and waited about 5 weeks. Got it back and was told it was losing only a few seconds per day now.
Put it back in the dash, and while I was at it I fixed up the butchered heater and air slides, also because I have fitted the later deluxe steering wheel I had to R&R that too.
Got it all back together and what do you think?
It still loses 5 minutes per day.
I'm now gunna live with that.
