Not much damage and she owned up right away - accidents do happen so I was not too hard on her.

But what should I do now? She has offered to pay for a repair or go through the insurance..

A. Do I source a new bumper, the right colour and year etc then spend my time putting it on to get just the cost of the bumper back.

B. Do I go through a garage and charge her the repair bill which may be quite high.

C. Do I go through the insurance which may possibliy put her premium up.

Totally not sure what to do as if someone had done this in a carpark or something, you probably would never know who did it as its not like they would leave a note. I get on really well with this neighbour so dont want to cause her too much hassle and expense but at the same time I dont want or NEED any extra expense and hassle....

Any help?

talk to her about it and if she wants to pay the garage to keep the no claims then get a quote ,Eg could be 5-600 quid who knows then suggest you do it and pay yourself fairly for the work then you both win if you know what I mean good luck Frankie.

how well do you get on with her?

personally I'd go A. but then thats me and I detest the current letigous nature of a growing number of folks, out to get money for nothing and its only ever the insurance or solicitors that win... you can always add a case of beer in the total :D

P.S. did you realise your driving a ford

Get a few quotes from a couple of garages for the complete repairs but also try and price up the parts yourself (including having the bumper resprayed to suit) and then talk to her. She may prefer to deal with you than to deal with some garages.

Get a few quotes from garages, cant see it being any mre than a £200, see if you can supply the bumper.

I would also be thinking of resale value. If it not done to standard it will effect the value, you shouldn't be out of pocket for someone elses fault. Also if you have it repaired then she refuses for some reason to pay for it where do you stand then?

It is often best to go through the proper channels, it will be better for you.

Saying that, if you know them well ask them to get it sorted and it gives them the chance to bring the cost down.

....i had a scuff on my bumper far far less than that...they replaced the whole thing with new.......£800............said the man-hours to repair would make it cheaper to replace

..........depending on your view of the car.....tell her the repair costs.....get her to pay cash....leave the dent and spend the £ on the bus

Definitely not A,possibly B if your 110% sure she`d come across with the cash when presented with a stiff bill.I`d go with C thats why we have insurance, not your fault if she hasn`t got protected bonus.
My wife recently had a tale ender recently ,the bill was over £2000 just for anew rear bumper and hire car for weeks and that was on a little Micra !

I'd agree with this ^^

No offence, but a P reg Mondeo is never going to lose a lot of value because of a damaged bumper. If it were mine, I don't even know if I would bother replacing it - just a bit of duct tape over the hole would do

Either way, I'd try to get it done as cheaply as possible. If you suddenly give them an £800 bill for a damaged bumper, they might think twice about being as honest next time.

"A" mate. give here the paint code and give her two weeks to come back with a bumper in that colour. i think i could find one exactly the same with og paint somewhere in the country with a bit of web searching. you've seen how quick some guys on here come up with rarest of parts, i'm sure an aubergine mondeo bumper isnt that hard to find. she could get one to her door for £80 max. no hassle to you and no huge insurance hike for what is a simply repair. then either fit the new one yourself or get a local garage to spend an hour on it and.
in the end your car will still be 100% ford paint. :D

My comment on going for B or C was based on this part of your post, if you are happy to go to extra hassle of looking for it/fitting it etc then go with A.

hail the duck tape, never go anywhere without it.

Did look at getting new bumpers but were £150 new in primer plus having to spray, more than the cars worth

Tanks for all the advice guys.

Yah I saw a similar one on egay. I found a local guy in Northampton who will spray it for £100. So that plus the bumper plus a bit for me to fit, I am thinking £150 all in is acceptable - bearing in mind that a new one from Ford in primer is £187+vat without paint...

I was looking seriously into phoning all the scrappies I know but after a few 'no's' I figured even if I do find one it may be damaged and scratched in other places..

I figure I am just going to give her the option above or insurance or let her call around breakers to find a 2nd hand one in the same colour. I think im being reasonable if I give her the choice..
