As it looks like we will need a replacement front beam in the not too distant future due to rusty end plates, I was wondering about a narrowed beam. Being new to this vw lark I don't know a lot about them, is the only reason you would get a narrowed beam to be able to lower your bus without the tyres rubbing on the inner arches? or am I missing something?
Our van has been dropped a little - looks like they just cut a bigger slot in the beam and rewelded it back up as there are no adjuster plates. The ride at speed is ok but at low speed it crashes badly over the cobbled traffic calming ramps near the house, that could be down to the dampers tho as they have probably seen better days.
Think I saw an ad for standard beams at around £350 and narrowed £450ish, would it be feasible to weld repair the end plates of the old beam? it has holed both sides around the lower edge and the center 'box' has been previously repaired but could really do with being rewelded.
