I'm having my rear arches, rear corners and battery tray replaced at the moment by a very competent welder in Portsmouth ( Sean at DrVdubs ). These have recently been bodged by a local VW specialist and funds now allow me to get them done properly. Anyway I've just had a call from Sean who has discovered that my complete offside sill is made of filler. This is a job I had done very recently and paid good money for. Now although I partly blame myself for being too naive and trusting I find it upsetting that a so called specialist who advertises in Volksworld and claims to do restorations and charges top whack for it can do such shoddy unprofessional work. Most jobs I've had done there now need doing again and I've had a lot of work done there. I'm reluctant to name and shame but would advise anyone to be very careful especially when getting expensive body work done. :( Ah that's better, rant over. Anyway it's in good hands now and I look forward to getting it back in time for Volksworld.

go on name and shame

you paid good money to this untrust worthy soul and left you with a bodged bus.

what do you owe him

nowt

but you owe it to other people not to go there and put this toerag out of trading if thats his standards..

Glad to see your now on the right path to putting it right, i spent well over 13 years as a panel beater and have seen some shocking so called repairs and thier not always from the "back st garages".(apologies to all the competent garages in back streets).

I've got a fair idea who this 'specialist' is
Unfortunately I've had 'work' done there too.
Sorry to hear about the bodged work Jeremy :(

that sucks dude. ill always take pics of my work thru the whole process so people know they get a top job.
ive seen plenty of bodges, also some "top specialists" are total cowboys.
hope you get it sorted

Have you still got your oil leak as well Steve? Wink

The oil leak was sorted. Not exactly cheap either.
When Tim took the engine out for the gearbox conversion the large piece of tinware behind the fan housing was just loose and not fixed at all though

Steve they gave me my bus back with no tail pipe when the exhaust was replaced and no tinware bolts when they pulled the engine to do the oil leak. ( It still pisses oil as well)
I've found an excellent VW mechanic in Worthing though, he's just done the gearbox on my Fastback and he was very meticulous and reasonably priced.

I've met Aaron Tulley at Classic Wagen in Worthing a couple of times now and will probably use him if I need anything done locally. His split was the one in Volksworld at the end of last year ('the best bus ever').

I see it as kinda a duty to fellow vdubers to name an shame.Thats what we are on a forum for surely.Dont let the bastad get away with it.What if next time its an even more deadly  repair. You owe him nothing and he owes you the repairs you paid for. After all whats he gona do even if he see's your post ?Kick off about it and bring it too everyone attention.NAH mate, if he is in a respected mag he needs to do a respectable job.So sing like a birdy and tell us who this rip off artist is.I know I would !!

Any one considering work in West Sussex pm me. I can recommend a good mechanic and discretely warn against a not so good one  . Mud slingings not my style. I think the VW community is such a strong one that word of mouth gets round quickly anyway.

I think it would be a good idea to have a list of good vw places to go in countrys we all live so if someone is looking for one then at least they are recommended

Know what you mean, few and far between here, got a superb mechanic in the village just he doesnt like working on old VWs'... :( been told about a guy pretty local that I need to check out....

Sorry hear your bad news Jeremy, but this is the sort of thing the small claims court is for - get your hard earned £££'s back and make the guy pay!

;)

I know who you are talking about and he has no idea about VW's. He got me over there once to look at a straight axle kit he had fitted and was having problems with. Turned out he had put the springplates on the wrong sides...!
