New 12v socket not working

I bought a 12v port to replace the not working rusty cigar lighter in the van. The original had one wire (live) going to fuze box. The new one has an in line fuze I fitted it and sent live to the fuze box and earth I attached to a non painted screw and washer attached to the body under the dash.

It doesn't work. Never done electrics so could someone shed some light on this please

Have you checked the fuse ?

have you got a test light or multi meter to check for 12v at the plug?

test light can be made quite easy ?

Yes bought a cheap one, tested it and all is well. Blew a few fuzes but now sorted. The spades were touching behind the dash. Put plastic sleeves over spades all is well
