I've just fitted a new halfords 063 battery to my camper and noticed when fitting there is a small red plug on the side near the +ve terminal.

Presumably this is for transit and you remove to vent the battery but is it okay to vent this into the engine bay ?

Also, if this is okay, are any gases output so minimal so as to be non corrosive as, because of where it is its close to the +ve cable?

I believe what you are referring to is a pressure relief vent which is there as a safety device to release excess hydrogen if the battery were to be overcharged / faulty etc. It is just there to prevent it from exploding in these scenarios. It is not an open vent to the cells - if you invert the battery I don't think any fluid will spill out as it is sealed (I hope!)

Might have to put a pic up, but the red plug may be the relief valve itself and would therefore need to stay put.
