I wonder if anyone can help, I'm new to campers and was just poking around underneath mine when I noticed it doesn't look right...

Here's andewilson's, (hope you don't mind me borrowing your picture?)..

The thing is on mine, it seems to have a second floor panel that covers all these beams... Is this normal, or done to hide the horrors that may lurk beneath...I've a feeling I may have to sell a lung to get this bus back in shape.

I'll try and take a picture of mine tomorrow.

That probably means you have belly pans fitted (they were an original vw option), depending on how & where it has been kept it could mean one of two things - either its in really good condition underneath them or its rotted to bits, generally the condition of the pans themselves & the surrounding areas (current areas of rust, previous repairs etc) will give you a clue to whats lurking under them ;)

If its a uk van then the latter is probably the more likely of the two :(

Just seen your other thread, so I guess its going to be the latter :( - definitely get them cut off & checked out underneath if getting a resto performed.

You could also try tapping them underneath or cutting a small part of the belly pan out and having a look, but i agree with the previous post if the rest of the van has a lot of filler then the underneath wont be any different but you never know,my mate just bought an crossover lhd and the roof and all the panels were shot but the underneath is solid and still has the original paint on Good Luck
