Hi all,
New to the forum after buying our first early bay. My uncle owned a '66 splitty when I was a kid in the seventies and I've hankered after one ever since. Shame it's taken 30 odd years really!! Ah well, here we go.... A few questions, hope you can help. Otis is a 1968 Eurovette completely original interior and stock engine and running gear.
- it was registered in mid December 1968 and has the later style door handles. Everyone says that because it's a 1968 it should have the push button ones? Is it possible that it "jumped the queue" and had the lever type fit?
- after buying realised crankcase oil seal was bust so replaced it and anything else I could think of whilst engine was out.. Full service pack was also fit. However I now have an annoying issue with the running. Each time I rev through the gears there seems to be a really big 'lag' each time I change gear and you have to back off the throttle before it behaves by which time you've lost your revs, so you have to knock it down a gear?

Any ideas? Many thanks.

sounds like a slipping clutch did you check it while the engine was out or it could be adjusted wrong

No, it hasn't jumped the queue regarding the door handles.
The '68 "model year" i.e. August '67 to end of July '68 had the push button handles. If your bus was registered in December '68 it is highly likely that it was built after August 1st '68, and would therefore have the later handles. Post up your chassis number and I'll be able to confirm this.

Hello, welcome to the forum.

Can you explain what you mean by "lag" ? Do you mean the engine stumbles, has no power as in a flat spot? Or do you mean it revs but doesent push the bus forward, for instance.

Thanks to all for the replies. I will post the chassis no later tonight. Regarding the lag, I should have been more descriptive. The engine revs just drop dramatically before it slowly picks up again. Could it be timing? vacuum? Its not that the engine revs without action as in a slipping clutch, it feels more like a big flat spot after you've changed gear and lost your revs.

Ok - well the first thing to do is make sure the engine settings are all correct (plugs, filter, valve clearances, timing, dwell, carburettor settings etc - basically the things you do when doing a full service)

If after all these have been verified you still have a problem then its time to investigate looking for faults like blocked idle jet, non functioning accelerator pump in the carb, leaking inlet manifold gaskets/rubber gaiters or faulty advance on the distributor etc.
