Hi all, Frod is in a new workshop having the driver's side step replaced. We've owned frod for about 17years so as you can imagine this is the second driver's side step we've had fitted. I've gone somewhere new because the last place we took it to gave us a price and then added £150 for unexpected extra welding without consulting us first. We were given the option of a £100 step or a better quality one for just under £200? So we've gone for the better quality one
This garage came recommended from a fellow vintage VW owner. I'm still using the van for my work as a window cleaner. I'm hoping for a quick turn around. If you fit a passenger swivel seat average sized ladders will fit inside. I was once asked "where's that just come from?" as my ladders came out of the rear door. Tardis? What's a Tardis?

Hope it gets sorted quickly for you.

Trouble with welding is,if you cut an arch out and it needs more wedling to be able to fit the arch then there isnt much choice.

I've just replaced the outer arch on the passenger side, which was a cinch compared to the repairs that i discovered needed doing to the bottoms of the A and B posts... It's probably one of the trickiest areas to repair on a Bay. Bizarrely the drivers side is rock solid!

Cheers
Jim

Frod's home now. Apparently the difference between the two Step/arch's are that the dearer one is made from galVANized metal. There were some other unexpected bits of welding to do in the area. But I'd got a worst case scenario price. Lesson learned from the other aforementioned garage. The area under the windscreen is next on my list.

I'm surprised you needed the work re-doing after only 17 years. The previous repairs were not protected.

The galvanized coating one is still the cheap klokkerholm step , rubbish , so much in fact we make our own out of vw steel , old cuts.
