Hey there. Im new here. I have a 68 bus. Currently off the road with gearbox probs but hopefully il get her on the road somehow. Just thought id say hi 😊.

Well a big hi to you too, and what’s up with your box then? Loads and loads of info here if you wang in a search.

Ozziedog,,,,,,,,,great when they’re going int they

Hey there Ozziedog 😊. Well its her original 3 rib box which i had checked over by a local "gearbox specialist" because she was making a grinding noise. They took it apart and found a screw had come lose. He said that was all that was wrong and put it back together, i put oil in etc, got it back in the bus and now every gear pops out as you go along. Reverse is the only gear that stays in place. Nightmare 😞. Just want her on the road now and perfectly working. They are indeed 😊.

Are you 100% sure it’s the gearbox and not any of the mechanisms to change gear? Where about s are you area wise and maybe there’s a decent VW guy near you that you could go to rather than a specific specialist that may not be that spesh with our groovy little old busses.

Ozziedog,,,,,,,anywhere near Brizzal?

Welcome Velgreeno, I have an old 3 rib box and all gears are OK except reverse which will not even stay in gear and 4th, which sometimes pops out. Fortunately still driveable.
I've had a few aircooled mechanics look at it and fiddle with the alignment of the shifter, but the consensus is that it's shagged and needs refurbing. I am looking into getting this done in my local area - Glos. There's a guy who comes highly recommended in Stoke-on-Trent called John Walklett (classic VW transmissions) - who can be contacted via Facebook messenger.

I have been told it is by a couple of people now its definately the box something is very wrong in there. It never did it before until it was taken apart and she just doesnt stay in 1 to 4 gears now atall. everything else is adjusted to working good. Its deffo the box i think.
Im in Torfaen and there is no one ha. Im looking to getting it done properly by Limebug in the coming weeks.

Hey there dude and cheers 😊. Oh right. Almost like the prob with mine but in reverse ha. Yeah i have adjusted things in mine and still the same. Box back out again. Grr. Oh right. I think i have heard of that name before.

If you're sending it to Limebug, John Walklett will be doing it for them.
Better to cut out the middleman and their extra charge on top and deal with John direct.
I can let you have his contact details if you wish.
