Welcome to the forum - not wishing to be a scaremonger but have a read of this thread

Do you have any other pics - perhaps of the rear of the vehicle?
It does look very much like a late bay rather than an early.

Fingers crossed it has just had some later panels fitted

Welcome to the forum. you couldn't have found a more friendly place. As has been said they all start somewhere and my'n is still in grey primer with the front hanging off, no engine and dead mouse. THREE YEARS TO GET TO THAT.

Theres another pic, can someone post an early bay pic up so I can compare please? what year did the indicators move to the top? Thanks for the warm welcome guys :)

It doesn't mean that it is not the same year you have been told. My bus came with high up indicators. I put it down to someone like me, who when I bought the bus, didn't know the difference between an early and a late. Seen as the top panel is only available as a late, why couldn't it just be that it has been replaced, and the person replacing it knew no different?

Unfortunately it isnt as simple as a late front panel being used as a replacement,

The rear engine cooling intakes are late as is the bumper deformation panel

I think the history runs like this although I cannot be sure -
1968 - 1970 EarlyBay low light, round rear lights, drum brakes allround
1970 - 1971 EarlyBay low light, round rear lights, disks front/drums rear
1971 - 1973 EarlyBay low light (crossover), rectangular rear lights, disk brakes + more
1973 - 1979 LateBay high front lights, rectangular rear lights etc

Loads of pics here in the gallery of earlybays for you to compare yours too

That's the forum you want. ;)
They seem a friendly lot, and if one or t'other forum goes offline for a period, we post in a guest section on the forum that is unaffected, so we may bump into you again in the future.... or if you buy an early at some stage, then we'll deffo see you back here, I expect! :D

ahh it would appear im now on the wrong forum lol... it deffo seems like a later bay to me.

What made you think it was a 1971 initially? Do you have the V5C?

Yes I bought it with a v5c stating it as a 71, all the chassis plate etc is attached and links up to the v5c

Can you get a pic of the engine bay mate.
That will confirm the year

If it is a latebay you may have an issue as it is registered as a 1971 - might have been ringed to give it tax free status from a scrapped earlybay.
Cant imagine insurance companies paying you out should you have an accident or engine fire.

Still some digging to do it looks like. Get a good pic of the chassis number from the engine bay too.
