1974 VW Westfalia Poptop Camper with early poptop fitted – 12 months MOT £5,000
Imported by me this year from the dry state USA.
Bus comes with a great 2.0ltr engine which has undergone a thorough run through.
Just gone through the MOT. Failed first time around so had the following work done in the last week by VW mechanic which were either failures or advisories:
Offside front brake caliper has restricted movement – Both front calipers replaced with new.
Nearside lower suspension arm has excessive play – all ball joints replaced with new.
Parking brake; efficiency below requirements – new handbrake cable fitted and adjusted.
Brakes imbalanced across axle. - All pads replaced new brake lines fitted and adjusted correctly.
Brake pedal rubber missing – Replaced.
Nearside seat belt damaged – Replaced
Nearside and offside front tyres below legal requirement – both front tyres replaced.
Both rear shocks insecure – checked and tightened bolts as were loose.
Nearside front bearing rough – replaced with new inner and outer bearing.
Bus went through MOT on re-test with no advisories today!
The bus needed a couple of patches welded into the front passenger and driver footwells, and has been done by local restorer.
One key fits all locks though the sliding door could do with a new lock or removing and cleaning as it’s a bit stiff.
Brand new UK spec headlights fitted and electric windscreen washer pump.
The bodywork has a couple of dings in it as shown in pictures.
Interior comes with brand new full width rock and roll bed and rear cushion, all you need to get up and head out for the weekend.
It needs the poptop roof canvas replacing and I have a brand new one with fitting instructions to go with the van. Would take around 3 hours to fit.
Painted in VW Pastel white/Orient blue and although the paint is faded and on the rear runners has come off, I’m sure a good mop over would get this back to its glory.
It has not been UK registered yet and would need to be by the new owner although it is MOT’d and insured on the VIN number.
Vehicle would also benefit from tracking/wheel alignment having had the ball joints replaced.
Underneath is solid as the pictures show with most of the original VW factory underseal on in most places.
Engine runs sweet and she drove 50 miles today in the glorious sunshine without missing a beat.
Located near Ipswich in Suffolk. This bus won’t be around for long at this price so grab yourself a great van and head out for the summer. You can’t go wrong with 12 months MOT and all work been carried out!
