As it says how can I tell what type of engine is fitted to Hank, I know its a 1641 but is there an easy way to identify a single port or dual port engine and what are these 'terms' actually referring to?

check from the carburettor down to the heads (unlikely to be single port if its duel carb). If the manifold (pipe connecting the carb to the cylinder heads) splits into two inlet pipes at the head end, its twinport, if its a single entry into the cylinder head its single port.

it refers to the number of 'ports' into the cylinder head for carburation.

Single port is generally more reliable and easier on the juice but less power, and twinport has more grunt but thirstier.

I doubt anyone would stay s/p on a 1641 though, so its most likely a twin.

Thanks both, as I thought its a twinport then

Graham, did you make a decision on which twin carbs to install? I'm currently in the market for some, was thinking twin weber ict34's from eurocarb.

Is it possible to tell from the picture below if my engine is a twinport, or will it only be shown on a picture from the side?

Twin port. 8)

esay to spot if you have a single or twin port, a single port manifold will be a single solid cast manifold from bottom of carb to the heads, the twin port was in three sections. and joined using rubber boots. and these can sometimes be the cause of poor running issues.

WHS^^^ more often than not the cause of poor running, a sadly often neglected and cheap and simple to fit piece of hardware...
