I got a MST serpentine kit ATM Sparky, kinda hoped paying for a top dollar kit would give some security of reliability. Do you think the kit will have limitations on life over stock?sparkywig said:If I were you I'd keep these as spares somewhere safe. Because when your new aftermarket ones decide to pack up you'll be glad to go back to stock.
Just saying through experience.

Please let me know how to pay.
What you say makes sense mate so thanks for the advise, its appreciated. Maybe the builders don't put them on performance engines as the belts don't slip to protect the fan like the stock does. That was one of my thought processes when I changed to serpentine that when screaming up a mountain in the alp's in 2nd that there will be zero slippage or loss of cooling. TBH though as I'm only a year into my air-cooled journey, the decision was based around researched comments from all over the place so they may not even be valid points  I always sit up and take in when I'm told something from somebody like yourself who's had a lifetime of experience, Cheerssparkywig said:CornishSilver said:I got a MST serpentine kit ATM Sparky, kinda hoped paying for a top dollar kit would give some security of reliability. I think there must be a reason why engine builders don't fit them to "performance" engines.
You'll still need to change belt alignment and tension regularly, so why not stick with stock.
Other than my current issues with poor quality generator belts, which has since been cured, I've had no problems with the stock setup in 34 years of running standard or modified air-cooled VWs.
Just my opinion of course.
Your old ones won't cost anything to store, and should you ever need a set of og pulleys and shims in the future you'll have some, rather than some lesser quality replacements.
