Help, ive got an oil leak, when i look from the rear, the right side of the engine and tinware is covered in oil,it is also all over the bottom of the engine on both heat exchangers and its going on the exhaust.
I cleaned the oil off on saturday, removed the lower tinware then started the van revving it for a few minutes,no sign of anything, but i used 4 litres of oil going from lancs to volksworld and back.

Ive previously replaced and sealed the rockers, replaced the oil filler with a cb performance one,and now a cranked ally one, both with breathers.

any help is gratefully recieved,as i currently have a james bond style smokescreen off the exhaust!

Oh the engine is a 1641 about a year old,runs/pulls well and doesnt smoke when climbing hills etc.

I was going to pull the engine but im worried i may not fid the cause as oil is everywhere already, anyone had similar problems?

It might be push rod tubes seals or more likely it is the rocker covers. Make sure you use genuine VW covers, seals and bail arms. You can still get seals from a main dealer, they are much better quality than the aftermarket ones. Make sure your smear them lightly with grease.

cheers, checked all those before, found the cause this afternoon, one of the bolts holding the cylinder head on had worked loose, retorqued the bolts back up,seems ok,now, problem has been doing my head in,checking pushrod tubes, rocker covers etc.
