Hello,

I need to buy some paint for my wheels and bumpers and want to make sure they are the correct shade.

I've done a search on this and also looked at the list on the samba but I still can't work out what the original colours for my van were.

it's a 68 and from the m-plate looks like it was built at the end of march 68.

I know it was originally blue with a white roof but the code on my M-plate doesn't seem to appear on any of the lists I've found.

The code I have is 5225

Does anyone know which of the whites this would have had?

Thanks

Sarah

I think some paint codes have more digits than that, mine has 6 digits 523907 which I think I'm correct in saying is Pearl White, these codes started with 521 - 526 and then 3 digits after for special paint jobs. Your 522 looks like the start of one of these codes, there are 3 colours that could start 5225 but these are all blues.

I'm using the VW spec guide 67-79.

If you have any other info let me know and I'll have a look

Hi Graham,

That whole line of the M-plate reads:

UD 2211 522552 then the chassis number

I know the UD is the delivery destination = USA - Philadelphia/Baltimore

the 2211 is the model code = Microbus

From what I've read in my book (the same as yours I think) the next 4 digits indicate the paint colours and the final 2 of the group of 6 for the interior colour and material

Thanks for you help.

Your M plate is laid out differently to mine as its a 68 -69 bus but all of my PPPPUU seems to be taken up with the paint code only which was a Westfalia Special Paint colour (according to the book)

Any one else help on this, Clem are you reading this?

I've had another look in my book Sarah, but I'm no closer to finding a definite answer. I too was thinking along Graham's line that your code looks like the start of a special paint code. :?:

I'm still plumping for L581 Cloud White that I mentioned over on JK. :)

the nearest i have come to finding out is this found on type 2 .com.

523552 L50K neptunblau neptune blue code for Westfalia campmobiles (type 23).

and as Danbury Doug says Cloud white roof, was your bus originally destined to be a tintop campmobile..

Looks like the same paint code as mine.
Neptune blue (L50K) with a cloud white (L 581) roof.

Excellent :D

Thank you vey much :D

Unfortunately there's no sticker in Hank, I guess someone peeled it off many moons ago as there isn't any trace of it.

I'm not sure what he was destined to be from the factory other than a microbus, He's got a westy bed and wardrobe in there now but it definately not from this van as it's got a 1970 label on it and the van doesn't have the proper fixings that a real westy would have.
