He is the bay window clock expert. Restores and cleans them to a very nice standard. I've bought a few clocks off him. Not cheap but at least you know what you're getting.

I'm always bemused by sellers trying to sell clocks stating "untested". Especially given the asking prices very often. It is after all a two minute job to get two pieces of wire and connect it up to a 12 volt power source to see if it works! Alternatively it is very easy to rig up a DIN socket test arrangement like I've done below.
Given the above I'd be very wary of any clock advertised as "untested".
There are however various threads on thesamba.com on repairing early clocks.

You can probably fix it yourself as vwed has mentioned above. There's nothing to the early mechanical movement clocks. This should assist with the repairs if needed. http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=288391" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I have used JDO for repairs several times...

Speedy Cables resotored a very rare Renault clock for me last year. Slow and expensive, but they fixed it.

If it is truly dead they could even put a modern 12v quartz movement inside the casing and keep the external appearence identical - could be the best way to go for future reliability...

Yeah maybe....

But I would prefer someone who has "Experience" with them :)

I followed Aspo's guide and got my 'date correct' clock working in minutes, and it is still ticking away nicely many months later. No experience required (on this occasion), just sound advice clearly explained. You have nothing to lose by having a go yourself.

If you want to give your money away, I'll have it, and I might even share it with Aspro. :lol:
