Overnight stops Devon

Anyone have any tips on where to stop for the night en-route to Cornwall, thinking I may travel Friday eve then stop off somewhere for the night to sleep, Not a campsite just somewhere safe/legal to kip off the A30 to add a bit of adventure ect
