I have a paint question,

What does it mean when you have laid your paint down and when it dries it splits in the odd area.

Just like little 2 inch slashes, is it silicon?

Cheers

sounds like a reaction to the paint underneath...
what paint you using and what base coat/primer did you use?
temprature also make a difference

I'm using ipoll primer, not even got s far as any colour.

The van has so much odd paint on it i suspect the long term easy answer is to go down to metal in those 'problem' areas :D

if the primers reacting then bare metal the problem areas, otherwise it will come back to haunt you later on!

Sounds like a reaction because of something as simple as grease, silicon etc, etc. Try some panel wipe or just flat the area back to bare metal if you've got the time  My mate had the same problem with my dash when trying to prep it and ended up stripping the whole thing back  Think someone must have used something like flash dash or back to black in the past which stopped the paint sticking even after rubbing down

Got my self 5ltrs of panel wipe from a body shop...I didn't want to use my premium gloss thinners for cleaning, bit pricey just to 'splash it all over'

Cracked my tins of paint night to knock up a couple of colour swatches for Rose to key the interior too. Damn fine colours they looked :D 8) Can't wait to strip my bus and start getting all 'Rolfe'

We chose VW colours 'Malaga' a deep red and Titan Weissse, a creamy white.

panel wipe is a mild thinner for cleaning, you wouldnt want to use full strength thinners as panel wipe as it will cause problems!

you can also get a barrier coat product from your local auto paint specialist, called barcoat or something similar

no it stops reactions from below the primer, silicon sits on top.
panel wipe will get rid of most silicon, back sure its a clean rag as any residue from polish or oil with cause problems
