I've been painting the inside of my van. Its a panel so won't to keep it very light inside. Decided to go for cream seats , there now on order , and cream vinyl walls. Started to paint some of the metal on the walls that may just show cream. Spent a week or so doing it but the paint just wernt sticking was flaking in areas and just wernt happy ( im a bit of a perfectionist with my projects ) so Fri after a week of painting rubbing down n painting - it all had to cone off.
I went to my local car shop he's been there now around 30 years ( US locals call him Mr nicey nicey ) he's very very nice will do anything for you. There's a rumor he's loaded but does it as a hobby n always knocks 50 p off here n there off every item u buy.
So i decided to buy and get mixed up some paint, original colour - for me its neptune blue can't quite remember the code. £16.00 a small spray tin. Ouch !
I tell u what it was amazing paint. I sprayed my bulk heads n it went on like in a spray shop. I woz well cuffed. Ordered two more today. Gonna strip off all the work i done all week n spray the lot - like i said any metal u may see ?
Expensive spray but if u gonna do it ... Do it right !
I was during the week feeling annoyed at how things were going but turned a corner this weekend n its looking good. Never scrimp or cut corners you'll only regret it :)

are you usring 2k or celly ,its been a bit cold and camp to be painting outside :?

Glad to hear you have turned a corner. Just a thought but did you de-grease the panels before painting? If not any grease or other contaminents may have reacted with the paint. :?
Good luck with the new paint,i hope it all turns out ok. :D

If it's an aerosol it's celly, which can bloom in damp conditions, best to heat the metal up with a heat gun first. But if it flaked off it may not have been keyed quite enough? Or not de greased properly?
£16 for a mixed aerosol is about right I think?, but I'm not sure.

Sorry if you know all this already

To b honest im not sure what the paint is but my bus is stored inside during the winter. Can't let that cold damp stuff fall on my pride and joy. Spraying isn't an issue where i keep it !
I did rub it down but i wonder if maybe i didn't clean it down enough. Bef i sprayed i did wash it down with white spirit and things were lot better. 45 years of dirt n paints not gonna stick. I've learnt a lesson there !

Thanks for the advice. I should have known better. The metalwork looked completely clean. I should have known better / treated it properly . Too much of a rush ( i have two young kids so time is valuable )
I won't do that again

Not true. You can have 2k mixed up and put in rattle cans as well as celly or other products like 1k acrylic, solvent basecoat etc. Get your metal temp too hot to start with and you'll get solvent pop.

Prep is everything. Everything must be keyed and your finish will only be as good as what you are spraying onto. If you don't feather back a loose or flaking edge it will get worse once you paint over the top. White spirit etc can also sometimes leave a residue so its always better to use panel wipe, let it evaporate off, its also a good idea to give it a blow down with an air gun to chase any excess out any gaps and then (wearing latex gloves to avoid contaminating the surface with your hands) give it a wipe down with a tack rag.

As you said, do it once and do it right and when it comes to paint prep is everything.

Get some panel wipe.its the last thing they use before spraying.de greases the surfaces.

Get some decent light in there as well matey, like halogen work lights...will warm things up and help you identify any problem areas.
