I've been in the VW scene for about the last 20 years and have previously worked in the industry and Drag Racing scene for a good many years too so i have a bit of experiance with VW's.

I was given some advice today that imho was a bodge and not altogether safe, and if i hadn't of known better i may have taken on face value and gone ahead with.

Maybe this person was having an off day, i don't know, but needless to say i won't be taking there advice and told them so much.

I really try and stay away from threads that slag off VW companies (more on VZi than here) so i won't be naming names or 'outing' people, i just wanted people to have the confidence to question any advice they get even if its from companies/people that should know better and try to get a second opinion if your not sure.

As you were :)

I agree in principle that naming and shaming should be carefully considered before putting on a public forum and you should as a rule always question advice if you think its wrong.

But if its advice that could be potentially dangerous as you said then maybe you should at least let us know what the advice was just in case someone else asks and takes it on board ;)

I think its fine to put up the "advice" given just dont name and shame thats a whole new game 8)

Was it Justkampers saying they sold the best door rubbers on the market?

kind of agree.. on a slightly smaller scale i once had my fuel cap stolen.. (press steel screw type with a big VW logo on)
the so called 'aircooled' specialist at a local swedish french and erm...german supplier told me that I would never find another and if i did i should expect to pay at least 100 bucks for it!!!!!!

wtf?!?!

i then got one off ebay for 3 quid!!! and was then given one for free from alocal vw garage

just my 2pence worth!

i know who it is, i know who it is :D

 and i know what you've just bought you jammy beggar ;)

1. What you bought now Stu?

2. I think it would be good to share the 'advice' and point out it's failings, perhaps save someone making a costly or dangerous error. No names needed.

3. Most, if not all firms will have bad press of some sort at some time. At the weekend I chatted with a less than happy customer of a well known supplier, someone recomended on here, who I have bought from and have always believed to have a top reputation for quality engineering. Admittedly the complaint was more concerning abysmal service, but a black mark all the same. If they can be so contemptable of customers regarding delivery, how can any technical advice have credence?

4. Trust no one, except your fellow Early Bay crew!!!
